The UAE Sports Federation for School and University Education Institutions launched the second phase of the School Games Championship recently, aimed at discovering new young talents and increasing participation in sports among the society. Following the success of the first phase organised at the school level, the second phase is hosting 1573 students competing in seven different sports including – athletics, swimming, fencing, badminton, judo, taekwondo, and archery.

By organizing such Championships, the Federation aims to identify and nurture new talents in sports as well as enhance the presence of sports in the society by encouraging individuals to practice sports at an early age. The Championship collaborates with educational institutions and relevant sports federations to enhance cooperation and draw in young sports talents from across the country. Through this effort, the Federation aims to cultivate a new generation of sports talents who can represent the UAE on the global stage and lead the country's sports sector to greater heights.

The first phase of this Championship kicked-off on April 29, 2023, with participation from a large number of students across the country. During Phase 1, the contestants exemplified their remarkable talents and competitive spirit, which reflected their enthusiasm to succeed and achieve further development in sports.

With numerous competitive events across seven sports, Phase 2 of this Championship will conclude on May 7, 2023. The final phase of the Championship will kick-off on May 13, 2023, in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and is set to include football and jiu-jitsu.

The School Games Championship is held in three phases. The first phase includes competition among students within their respective schools, while the second phase hosts competitions between different zone schools in each Emirate. The final phase will see nationwide competitions.

The School Games project is aimed at preparing, qualifying, and developing sports abilities of students aged between 9 and 17. In collaboration with various sports federations, the General Authority of Sports evaluates the growth of school championship winners to ensure constant development of their sports competencies and prepare them to represent the UAE on global podiums of sports.

By identifying and nurturing new sports talents in the UAE, the project contributes to enhancing the presence of sports in the UAE and aims to produce a generation of sports talents with excellent capabilities who can lead the sector. By doing so, it aims to increase the country’s presence in the global sports scene.
