15-05-2023
Under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education, Chairman of the General Authority of Sports, and Chairman of the UAE Sports Federation for School and University Education, the final phase of the UAE School Games project will be launched on May 13, 2023, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Held by the UAE Sports Federation for School and University Education, the final phase will witness the participation of 593 students, who qualified from the second phase in which 1573 students took part.
The final phase of the School Games will host competitions for students in nine different sports, including athletics, swimming, fencing, badminton, judo, taekwondo, bow and arrow, football, and jiu-jitsu.
With male and female participants, the competition aims to identify and nurture new talents in the country. The General Authority of Sports (GAS) intends to discover new young talents and increase sports participation in the community through such competitions, in collaboration with various educational institutions and other relevant sports entities. By doing so, the Authority seeks to produce a generation of sports leaders and consolidate the UAE’s presence on the global sports map.
The culmination of the UAE School games will be marked by a closing ceremony, during which 300 students will be honoured and awarded medals and prizes in the presence of numerous eminent sports figures and dignitaries.
In addition to identifying new young talents in sports, the UAE School Games project also seeks to encourage individuals to practice sports from a young age and improve their athletic abilities to compete in various sports championships. By collaborating with various relevant sports federations, the GAS will ensure the constant development of sports competencies of the winners in the game as well as prepare and enable them to hoist UAE’s flag across various international sports events.
Launched on April 29, 2023, the UAE School Games is held in three phases. The first phase was held on school levels while the second phase witnessed competitions between schools of different regions in each Emirate. The best talents from the second phase were qualified for the final stage, which is held on the national level.
