Born in a land of glories and championships, Hamed Muhammad Ahmed Al-Rusi Al-Hammadi embarked on his refereeing journey in 1988. By 1995, he proudly earned the international badge, cementing his status as one of the foremost figures in volleyball at local, Arab, and global levels.
Al-Russi's path commenced within the ranks of UAE referees, officiating numerous President's Cup and local league finals over 33 years. He credits his accomplishments to the United Arab Emirates, the UAE Volleyball Federation, and his cherished Khor Fakkan Club, a pivotal contributor to his excellence.
His dedication and determination propelled Al Hammadi's rapid ascent, qualifying him to join the ranks of international referees. His journey beyond borders commenced with the first Gulf championship for men in Qatar in 1995, followed by officiating numerous Gulf and Arab finals, both at the club and national team levels, as well as continental tournaments. Al-Russi consistently delivered exceptional performances, leaving an indelible mark in refereeing various tournaments and competitions.
In 2003, Al-Russi's name became synonymous with international tournaments when he officiated the Women's World Championship final in 2015. He went on to officiate seven finals in the Grand Prix tournament, a remarkable achievement. Recognized as one of the world's top 20 elite referees by the International Federation, he boasts a grade of A.
Al-Russi's career was defined by challenges and triumphs, solidifying his stature as a volleyball luminary. Notable highlights include officiating more than ten Grand Prix and World League finals, as well as participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics—an unequivocal testament to the International Federation's acknowledgment of his exceptional skills.
Al-Russi's career saw the establishment and shattering of records, such as breaking the world record for points per set and match duration in a 2023 Nations League clash between the United States and Argentina. He also officiated the Nations League finals for the 2023 men's and women's volleyball tournament, a testament to his unwavering dedication.
Beyond world championships, Al-Russi presided over the world's largest sporting spectacles when he officiated the 2020 Tokyo Olympics—an exceptional achievement signifying the International Federation's profound appreciation and confidence in his refereeing abilities. He continued to shine in high-profile matches, including the Netherlands vs. Iran match in the 2022 World Men's Championship.
Ranked among the finest volleyball referees globally, Al-Russi consistently distinguished himself at continental and international levels. His assignments included officiating matches during the women's competition in Antalya in 2023, followed by the men's third week's matches in Anaheim, California. These events culminated in the Women's Nations League final in Texas in July 2023.
Throughout his illustrious career, Hamed Al-Russi transcended his role as an international referee to become a representative of Emirati, Gulf, and Arab referees on the global stage. He served as an ambassador for Arab and Gulf volleyball, leaving a profound impact on the sport despite the challenges he encountered. His unwavering resolve and determination propelled him to the international elite, proudly raising the UAE flag worldwide.
