The Authority launches a study looking into the future

The Directorate of Strategy and Future at the General Authority for Sport held the third preparatory meeting for the launching of a future study in the field of sports. Rashid Al Mutawa, Director of the Department, said that the study of the future is in response to the aspirations of our wise government and in line with the recent changes in the General Authority for Sport and to shape a rosy future for the UAE sport, to invest all internal and external opportunities and meet all challenges and to prepare proactive plans to achieve the requirements of sustainability of the strategic plans of the institution beyond the conventional and work to unite efforts to achieve a qualitative shift in sports work.

The Director of the Strategy and Future Department, Head of the Project and a graduate of the Looking into Future through the Council of Ministers Office, said that the study has been prepared during the last period. All the necessary axes have been developed and adopted for the success of the project and the translation of all the project requirements within a clear time plan. The Authority with the strategic work team will hold various meeting with a number of sport federations carefully chosen through clear criteria that meet the aspirations of the Authority in the implementation of the objectives of the National Index to achieve Olympic medals. Those meetings will be held during the next week with all the leaders of those sport federations and stakeholders to explain the requirements of the project and the means for its success, then will gather information and key data necessary to assess the current situation will be gathered. The project is characterized by a comprehensive and detailed study of the capabilities in the field of exploring the future and identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement, and inventory of all existing challenges and projected.

The project's president explained that the outputs of the project will be positive and will have a clear impact on all sport institutions in the country. Its impact will extend to the society through a set of future scenarios and the mechanism of dealing with them in a scientific way to be an input to the strategic planning of the Authority to ensure the achievement of the desired results. A guide will be developed to include the work methodology and the tools that will be used to read the future, putting in mind that this guide is the first of its kind in the country at the sport bodies’ level.

Al-Mutawa stressed that the project will include the identification of the most important local, regional and international trends (TRENDS), in addition to the preparation of the motivation matrix for change, the degree of its effects and its ambiguity to study the updating of the current institutional performance indicators system and the development of performance indicators in line with the country's ambitions. Al-Mutawa also praised the support of the leadership in the Authority, thanking HE Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al-Rumaithi, the Acting General Secretary, the Assistant Secretary General and all the employees for their serious efforts to translate the orientations and aspirations of the political leadership in the country, noting that the next phase requires the combined efforts of all sport councils, the Olympic Committee, Sports clubs and to work together towards the success of this project and to make a qualitative leap in the strategic sports work in the country.
