Rumaithi presides over the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the GAS

His Excellency Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the General Authority for Sports, chaired the first meeting of the Board after the new formation which was held this morning at the headquarters of the Authority in Dubai in the presence of all the members and the General Secretariat of the Authority. Before the start of the meeting, Mohammed Khalfan Al-Rumaithi had toured the corridors of the Authority, visited the departments, acquainted with the mechanism and methodology of its work and met with the staff, accompanied by Ibrahim Abdul Malik Mohammed, Secretary General of the Authority and Assistant Secretaries. Mohammed Khalfan Al-Rumaithi said that the meeting was fruitful as the members were briefed on all the work of the Authority from the organizational structure, budgets, strategy, operational plans and projects, as well as draft regulations to be submitted to the sport federations in the coming period. One of the main issues that were reviewed was the decision of the Council of Ministers on the participation of the sons of female citizens and the people born in the country and the holders of decrees and residents in the official sports competitions after the General Secretariat of the Authority held several meetings with the federations of individual and group and quality games and took all the views and observations, where it was agreed on the mechanism of participation of these groups and for the final vision on this issue to be submitted to the council of Ministers at the beginning of next week for approval and adoption and thereafter will be applied immediately to be a historic decision as it will contribute to expanding the base of practitioners in various sports and a clear evidence that the UAE is a country of good and tolerance and everyone who lives on its land forms the fabric the UAE community and their participation will increase successes and achievements. Al-Rumaithi revealed the establishment of a fund to support Emirati talent with the participation of businessmen and individuals as there are several major companies that have expressed their consent and willingness to support the fund and others will join in a bank account and sign contracts with the companies joining them. The Fund will coordinate with the concerned sports federations especially those concerned with individual games to exploit the money to qualify champions in the best global training centers and provide the appropriate environment according to a specific mechanism and according to the numbers achieved by the players, noting that the fund has the support of the leaders and was met with a great welcome by members who promised for their contribution to attract more companies to support the fund, which is expected to achieve success in reaching goals through which we are working on the rehabilitation of our players for upcoming tournaments and events.

The Chairman of the General Authority for Sport noted that a committee has been formed to study the sports law draft which will determine the nature of sport and its objectives and roles and responsibilities between the federal authorities and sports federations in order to benefit from all the legal expertise in the country and outside to develop final perception of the law which suites UAE to submit it to the higher authorities and the National Council to be approved by the government so that the sport of the UAE has achieved an advanced step in the right way beyond the disadvantages that had been accompanied by the past period. As for the committees emanating from the Board of Directors office, it will be formed later after the completion of amendments to the law of the General Authority for Sport. Al-Rumaithi pointed out that the General Authority for Sport will sign two cooperation agreements with the Ministry of Education to take advantage of one of the sport halls in Dubai to be allocated for exploitation by the sports federations under the supervision of the Authority, and the second on coordination in activating the sport activity of schools and universities competitions that had stopped for some time, and it is time to return them and take advantage of the talent that benefits our national teams
