GAS signs cooperation memorandum with National Bank of Fujairah in support of NBF Fujairah Run 2023

The General Authority of Sports signed a cooperation memorandum with the National Bank of Fujairah in support of the seventh edition of NBF Fujairah Run 2023, which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Fujairah. The event will be held on November 18 to bolster the strategic partnership between both sides, further establishing an enabling environment for community participation in sports activities and promoting sports culture among the society.

The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Suhail Bin Butti Suhail Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the General Authority for Sports, and Adnan Anwar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the National Bank of Fujairah.

His Excellency Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum said: “We eagerly anticipate the initiation of strategic partnerships and reinforcement of collaboration frameworks between government agencies and private sector institutions. We recognise the importance of collective efforts to promote community sports in the UAE, aligning with the vision and guidance of our wise leadership to achieve the ambitious national goal outlined in the National Sports Strategy 2031, which stipulates reaching 71 percent of the population actively participating in sports. In line with this commitment, we are enthusiastic to be a part of the NBF Fujairah Run 2023, recognising the event’s positive impact in encouraging citizens and residents to engage in diverse sporting activities and embrace a healthy and active lifestyle.”

He added: "Signing the cooperation memordium with the National Bank of Fujairah (NBF) marks the beginning of a sustainable and refined relationship that not only amplifies opportunities for collaboration with private sector institutions but also facilitates the optimal utilisation of administrative, technical expertise, and human and material resources. Such collaboration is geared towards serving our shared strategic objectives, aligning seamlessly with the governing principles of the Authority, namely governance, partnership and achievement.”

Adnan Anwar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the National Bank of Fujairah, said: “We take pride in signing this agreement with the General Sports Authority, a move that enhances the prominence of this race. Over the years, this event has been instrumental in fortifying the National Bank of Fujairah’s standing as a key organiser of sports events, contributing to the well-being of communities by engaging and socially responsible initiatives. Collaborating with the General Authority of Sports highlights the government’s vital role in shedding light and disseminating these initiatives among diverse community groups.”

The agenda for this year’s race features six categories, encompassing the team race, the People of Determination race, and the Mountain Trail Race, spanning distances of 3, 5, 10, and 11 kilometres. The starting point and culmination of the race will be at Fujairah Festival Square. The NBF Fujairah Run 2023 is sponsored by several partners, with notable contributions from Malabar Gold and Diamond, Fujairah Natural Resources Foundation, The Box, Fujairah Adventure Centre, Fujairah Port, National Fujairah Group and National Fujairah Driver's Institute.

The NBF Fujairah Run 2023 stands out for its breath-taking backdrop of the Emirate’s picturesque landscape. Drawing participants of all ages and skill levels, the event's diverse program includes recreational activities suitable for every family member. Each participant receives a commemorative shirt, and winners in the top three places of each category—women, men, nationals, and residents—are rewarded with prestigious medals and cash prizes.

The NBF Fujairah Run has been a unique event initiated in the Emirate of Fujairah since 2017. Over the past six years, the race has achieved remarkable success, drawing the participation of approximately 12,000 contestants from both within the country and abroad. Participants have garnered a unique experience that seamlessly blends sports with enjoying the captivating natural scenery and exploring the Emirate’s historical landmarks.
