General Authority for Sports concludes swimming courses for women in Ajman

Dubai, 10 September 2019: The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Sports (GAS), Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, held its seventh meeting in the presence of Said Abdul Ghaffar Hussain, Secretary General of the Authority, and all members at the Authority's headquarters in Dubai.

The meeting discussed a number of matters and issues related to the sports arena in the country, most notably were the following:
- The Council adopted the electoral system included in the model statute of the sports federations from the electoral term 2021-2024.
- Procedures to implement the decision of the Council of Ministers on categories covered by the directives of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to allow residents to participate in the official sports competitions held in the UAE, and it was decided in this purpose to form a committee to study the issue in all its aspects and to report to the Board of Directors within three months, as the Committee's proposals will be implemented with effect from the next season 2020-2021.
- The cost of fees for sports events held in the country was also discussed, taking into account all the coordination aspects of the competent administrative authorities in the country. The matter has been adjourned for study and discussion in the next meeting
- The Council discussed the issue of financial support for sports federations starting in 2020 in order to support and develop the performance of national sports teams. The Council took a decision to form a committee to review the regulations related to financial support based on the size of the federations programs and budgets and the level of results and made directions towards the need to amend the financial regulations related to the work of sports federations
- The Council discussed the decision to prepare the procedures for organizing the general assemblies of the sports federations, which will be organized by the end of next year 2020 for the electoral term 2021-2024 in accordance with the provisions of the model statute of the sports federations. In this regard, the Council stressed the importance of forming the boards of all sports federations through the election process and avoiding the appointment of boards of directors
- The Council issued the decision to register the UAE National Paralympic Committee, Al Dhafra Club for the Disabled and the Shooting and Archery Federation.

The Council was also briefed on:
- Follow up the procedures of issuing the sports law and the notes received from the Ministry of Justice and prepare to issue the regulations according to the articles of the law through the issuance of the "Emirates Sports Code" which contains the texts and regulations of the sports sector in the country.
- Follow-up procedures for the adoption of the National Strategy for Sport 2020-2032
- The activity of the Emirates Fund to support and care for the talented athletes, touching on the stages of completing the medical tests and the plan of the next stages of completing the field and technical tests, in addition to reviewing the results of some talented people registered at the regional and international levels.
- Organizing a meeting on the occasion of the start of the sports season 2019-2020 that brings together all the parties of the sports movement in the country (federations / clubs / Olympic Committee / etc.) to discuss ways to start the sports season and develop the sports sector.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council directed:
- The sixth session of the women's sport for the GCC countries, reviewing the preparation budget in coordination with the sports federations participating in the session and the budget of participation in order to submit it to the competent authority for accreditation. Expressions of thanks and appreciation to the sports federations for their efforts to contribute to the development of the sports sector and its interaction with the General Authority for Sports for the success of the new sports season, wishing them further success in their efforts to develop the sports system in the country.
